Fifty years ago, Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle created their first book together, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”

Since 1967, the book has been popular with children and parents around the world, as well as a staple of public and school libraries.

Step into the pages of this colorful classic when Ela Area Public Library hosts the exhibit “Brown Bear Turns 50,” featuring artwork exclusively from the book, Feb. 1 to March 23 at the library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich.

On loan from the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, the exhibit features professional level reproductions of Carle’s work.

Learn about the book that propelled Carle from an advertising executive to one of the most acclaimed and beloved picture book illustrators of his time. Exhibit activities include:

• Listen to audio versions of the book and read along.

• Vote for your favorite animal from “Brown Bear, Brown Bear.”

• Weekly drawings to win Carle books and toys.

• Weekly crafts and activities.

• Art programs and an origami class.
