Waterline Writers in Batavia:

Gint Aras, Julie Brandon, Donna Wise Coombs, Laura Knapp and R.G. Ziemer will be featured at Waterline Writers from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the art gallery at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., Batavia. Aras will read from his novel “The Fugue,” and Knapp will explore “Natural Selection” in the workplace in a short story nominated for a Pushcart Prize by the editors of Rum Punch Press. Candidates forum in Aurora:

Eleven Fox Valley Park District candidates vying for seven seats have been invited to a forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library, 101 S. River St., Aurora. This will be the first elected board in the park district’s 70-year history. Board members will be elected from geographic areas dividing the 65-square-mile park district. Candidates forum in Dundee:

The Dundee-Rutland Townships Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area will host a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, featuring four candidates for three 4-year seats on the Gilberts Village Board: Jeanne Allen, Nancy Farrell, Daniel Pace and Guy Zambetti. Law school scholarship:

Students enrolled in law school can apply for the Timothy C. Evans Scholarship, sponsored by the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation. Deadline is Thursday. The scholarship is available to students attending an Illinois accredited law school who reside in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division (includes Lake, Kane DuPage, Cook, Will, Kendall, Grundy and LaSalle counties) and who have demonstrated a commitment to the highest scholastic standards. State of Aurora speech:

Aurora Mayor Robert O’Connor will present his State of the City address to the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Pipers Banquets, 1295 Butterfield Road. O’Connor was appointed to the post last fall after longtime Mayor Thomas Weisner stepped down citing health concerns. O’Connor is not seeking the mayor’s seat in the April 4 election when Richard Guzman and Richard Irvin will face off for the post. O’Connor’s speech, “Strong Foundation, Strong Future,” will focus on the city’s role as a leader on regional issues, recent gains in economic development, and the city’s declining crime rate. The regular monthly meeting of the Aurora Public Library board of directors has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday from Wednesday. The board typically meets the fourth Wednesday of each month.
