A 2:30 a.m. wake-up call, a 5 a.m. Wrigley Field arrival, and an hour wait finally rewarded me with this image of the Commissioner’s Trophy being passed around by Cubs captain Anthony Rizzo the morning the Cubs arrived home from Cleveland after winning the World Series. Everyone wanted to touch the trophy. A carnival atmosphere developed. The scene became organic and fluid while players and their families continued to celebrate as they disembarked from buses outside the left field bleachers of the ballpark. Fans, most without sleep, had gathered early that morning, lining Waveland Avenue to cheer the team’s homecoming.
