• Jose J. Barbosa, 35, of the 1400 block of North Winslowe Drive, Palatine, was arrested May 8 on the 400 block of Parkchester and charged with felony theft and felony burglary. The report said he took a bicycle out of an unlocked shed at a home on the 400 block of Parkchester. Barbosa told police he saw the bike while working for a lawn car service a week earlier. On May 3 between 10 and 11 a.m., he entered the shed and stole the bicycle, according to the report.
Des Plaines
• A Des Plaines resident was scammed out of $30,600 between March 24 and May 2 after she was contacted daily by a man calling himself “Simon” who tricked her into believing he could help her with her computer. She purchased gift cards and made withdrawals from her bank account.
Mount Prospect
• Thieves stole a tablet computer between 1 and 5 p.m. May 2 from a victim in a restaurant on the 900 block of North Elmhurst Road. Value was estimated at $599.
• Thieves stole a men’s black and gray bicycle between 8:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. May 5 out of a bike rack at Main Street and Northwest Highway. Value was estimated at $180.
• Dovydos Vitkevicius, 27, of the 6100 block of Knollwood Road, Willowbrook, was arrested around 2:42 p.m. May 4 at Costco, 999 N. Elmhurst Road, and charged with retail theft. The report said a security agent saw him take eight boxes of flea and tick medication. Value was estimated at $591.
