Hossa taken for X-rays:

Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa was taken to a Quebec City hospital for X-rays following Team Europe’s 4-0 loss to Team North America on Thursday night, according to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie. Europe coach Ralph Krueger had no update on Hossa after the game, according to ESPN’s Craig Custance. Hossa played just 10:47 in the game, and sat out the third period.

Seahawks plan demonstration:

RENTON, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin tweeted Thursday that the team “will honor the country and flag” in a “demonstration of unity” prior to Sunday’s season opener against Miami.

Castro in lead at BMW:

CARMEL, Ind. — Roberto Castro wants nothing more than to go home to Atlanta, and he took a soggy step in the right direction Thursday in the BMW Championship. Castro was just as good before the rain as he was after the storms cleared at Crooked Strick, running off eight birdies until a bogey on his last hole for a 7-under 65 and the temporary lead. Storms and heavy rain caused a 3½-hour delay. The delay meant that just under half the 69-man field finished the round.

Lochte penalties announced:

Ryan Lochte will forfeit $100,000 and a chance to swim at next year’s world championships as part of the penalty for his drunken encounter at a gas station in Brazil during last month’s Olympics. The U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Swimming announced the penalties Thursday. Lochte is banned through the end of June.

Smith contract changed:

URBANA — University of Illinois trustees have approved a contract with football coach Lovie Smith that will pay him at least $21 million over six years. They approved initial terms for Smith after he was hired in March that were backloaded to pay him $10 million in salary over his final two years.

Extension for Illini golf coach:

URBANA — A six-year contract extension for men’s golf coach Mike Small was approved by the University Board of Trustees, Illinois director of athletics Josh Whitman announced Thursday.
