Rover Rescue garage sale:

The Great Annual Rover Rescue Garage Sale is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 326 Sharon Lane, North Aurora. Rover Rescue, a nonprofit, all-volunteer group, provides medical treatment and care for homeless dogs and puppies rescued from high-kill shelters. Visit roverrescue.org.

Aero Club air show Saturday:

Fox Valley Aero Club’s 11th annual Festival of Flight Air Show is 9 a.m. until dusk Saturday at the club’s flying field at 3821 Karl Madsen Drive, near Route 38 and Peck Road, St. Charles. This is a fun-fly event with all types and sizes of radio controlled aircraft. There will be continuous exhibition flights that will include giant scale aircraft (some with wing spans more than 15 feet) along with a noontime air show. Spectators will see a dogfight of World War I biplanes, a squadron of World War II fighters and a variety of stunt planes filling the sky with smoke trails. For the spectators, there is an entrance fee of $5 and kids 12 and younger are free. Seating is available, but attendees can bring their own chairs. Concessions will be available. You can tour local gardens:

Explore gardens in Elburn and West Chicago with self-guided tours Sunday to benefit the Garden Conservancy. The gardens will open, rain or shine, at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. in West Chicago and 5 p.m. in Elburn. No reservations are required. Hummer Haven, 43W712 Willow Creek Drive, Elburn, features a private garden with thousands of perennials, lilies, bulbs, shrubs, landscaped ponds and waterfalls at a Certified National Wildlife Habitat. Or take a behind-the-scenes look at the more than 10 acres of display and trial gardens of the Ball Horticultural Company gardens, 622 Town Road, West Chicago. Picnic for federal employees:

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Greater Fox Valley Chapter 2181 will host its annual picnic at noon Aug. 9 in the upper pavilion at the Tyler Creek Forest Preserve, off Route 31 and Davis Road, just south of Interstate 90, Elgin. Signs will be posted on the upper portion of Davis Road. The guest speaker will be Amanda Howland, Democratic candidate for the 6th Congressional District. Membership is open to civilian active federal employees, retirees and spouses who are eligible to receive an annuity or survivor’s annuity from any agency of the U.S. government.
