A Lake County sheriff’s police dog helped capture a man wanted on a warrant after he tried to flee from deputies in Old Mill Creek, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday regarding an unresponsive person in a vehicle stopped in a lane of traffic near Sand Lake Road and Hunt Club Road. An ambulance that arrived before sheriff’s deputies found Matthew Fry, 32, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, in the vehicle.
Fry, who had an arrest warrant from the Cicero Police Department alleging failure to appear on a charge of obstructing a peace officer, ran when he learned sheriff’s deputies were on their way, authorities said.
Once authorities found him, Fry tried to flee again, according to police.
Deputy Dwight Arrowood attempted to take Fry into custody, but he resisted arrest, according to sheriff’s police. Arrowood’s police dog partner, Duke, was called in and bit Fry, who was then subdued.
Fry later admitted to ingesting heroin, police said.
