St. Charles Rotary retreats:

How to join Muskies Inc.:

The Fox River Valley Chapter of Muskies Inc. has monthly guest speakers who cover a variety of fishing topics and who come from all over the U.S. to speak to chapter members. The next club meeting is Thursday at the Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road. Admission is free, and meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month. Meet St. Charles candidates:

The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County host a candidates forum for the contested races in St. Charles from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., St. Charles. The races include: library board, park district board, alderman (two wards) and school district. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, issue-oriented organization which never endorses candidates. Visit lwvckc.org.

Farmers market at Sherman:

Advocate Sherman Hospital’s last indoor farmers market of the season is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the hospital’s lake level, 1425 N. Randall Road, Elgin. Organized by the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market and Shared Harvest: Elgin Food Cooperative, there are vendors with produce, meat, baked goods and other locally grown and produced items. Carpentersville Penny Social:

The community is invited to a Penny Social Friday at the Carpentersville Moose Family Center, 309 Lake Marian Road. Doors open at 5 p.m., with food available for purchase. The raffle starts at 7 p.m. Everyone leaves with something. Only 50 cents to get in the door. Call (847) 426-8441.

Next H.E.L.P. cat adoption:

H.E.L.P. hosts an adoption for kittens and cats from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the space adjoining Animal House Veterinary Hospital, 2079 Route 38, St. Charles. The entrance, at 2081 Route 38, is near the side door to the hospital. Adoption fees vary depending on the age of the cat and includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, treatment for parasites and microchipping. All cats adopted on a H.E.L.P. adoption day receive a coupon for a free veterinary exam at either of Animal House Veterinary Hospital’s locations in St. Charles or at the North Aurora hospital, 356 N.
