



Buffalo Grove Flag Day:
The Buffalo Grove Park District will hold its annual Flag Day celebration at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Veterans Park, 1300 N. Weiland Road in Buffalo Grove. The guest speaker will be U.S. Army Lt. Col. Priscilla Van Zanten, and the Buffalo Grove Fire Department’s Honor Guard will be presenting the colors. Other speeches and changing the flags will be part of the program. There will be free hot dogs beginning at 4:45 p.m. There is no rain date for the event.
New park board president:
James Grady was appointed president of the Des Plaines Park District board by his fellow commissioners at their recent May meeting. Grady, a Realtor and manager of the Re/Max Suburban office in Mount Prospect, has previously served as board president, vice president and treasurer since first being elected in 2001. William Yates was chosen as board vice president and Joseph Weber as treasurer on the five-member board. Jana Haas served as president for the last year, and Donald Rosedale was in the position the year before.
Community Day June 4:
The city of Prospect Heights is holding Community Day from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4. Attendees can have family fun while learning about all the community groups in town. And everyone is invited to the Prospect Heights Lions Club pancake breakfast for $5 per person. Children 3 and under eat free. There will be variety of fun activities at the main fire and police stations located at Camp McDonald and Elmhurst roads. Firefighters and police officers will be on hand for equipment and station tours and the park districts, public works and library will have many different children games and inflatables. Parking will be available on Maple Avenue, next to the police department, and in the municipal lot across Camp McDonald Road.
Rising Stars auditions in Elgin:
Soirée Lyrique will hold auditions June 4 for the Fox Valley Rising Stars Young Artist Program. The program is open to singers of all ages. Preference will be given to singers residing in the Midwest and with a classical foundation; no pop singers. To be considered for an audition, send your resume and picture via email at office@soireelyrique.org. Younger singers should provide a short bio of their musical experience or studies if they don’t have a resume. A registration/audition fee of $10 will be due on the date of the audition.
