Taurasi breaks WNBA scoring record:

LOS ANGELES — Diana Taurasi became the WNBA’s career scorer leader, passing Tina Thompson’s mark of 7,488 on Sunday against Los Angeles. Taurasi needed 14 points coming into the game, and broke Thompson’s record late in the first half on a layup with the Phoenix Mercury trailing big. She scored 19, finishing with 7,494 points.

Cougars complete sweep of Timber Rattlers:

Garnering their first sweep since late April, the Kane County Cougars (39-28) capped off their first half division championship with a 6-2 triumph against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (26-42). The Cougars end the first half winners of three consecutive series and seven of their last eight contests.

Boomers get another win over CornBelters:

NORMAL — The Schaumburg Boomers completed a road trip sweep with a 6-3 decision over the Normal CornBelters on Sunday. Gunnar Kines pitched shutout ball for the third time in his seven starts, working six blank innings to improve to 5-1 on the year. Kines leads the league in ERA. Alec Kenilvort tossed the ninth for his fourth save. Godfrey finished with 4 hits and 2 RBIs. Spivey notched his 17th multi-hit game of the year, posting a 2-for-4 showing for the top hitter in the league.

Bandits show dominance in doubleheader:

The Bandits came out on top of both contests in a Father’s Day doubleheader on Sunday against the Beijing Shougang Eagles, outscoring their opponent by a combined total of 16-1. The Bandits shut out the Eagles 8-0 in the first game and dominated again in the second game, winning 8-1.

Rockies’ Arenado hits 3-run homer for cycle:

DENVER — Nolan Arenado completed the cycle with a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Colorado Rockies stunned the San Francisco Giants by rallying for a 7-5 victory Sunday. Arenado tripled in the first, singled in the fourth and had an RBI-double in the sixth. He hit a 91 mph fastball for his 15th homer and first career cycle.

George plans to leave Pacers, sources say:

Star forward Paul George has informed the Indiana Pacers that he plans to leave the franchise when he becomes a free agent in 2018, sources say. George has spent all seven of his NBA seasons in Indiana, emerging as one of the league’s top players. He averaged a career-high 23.7 points and shot 46 percent last season, but the seventh-seeded Pacers were swept by Cleveland in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Boxer dies days after knockout in match:

EDMONTON, Alberta — Tim Hague, the former UFC fighter known as “The Thrashing Machine,” died Sunday, two days after he was critically injured when he was knocked out in a boxing match against former Edmonton Eskimos defensive end Adam Braidwood. Hague’s sister, Jackie Neil, announced the death in a family statement. The 33-year-old Hague, who grew up on a farm in Boyle, Alberta, was a heavyweight trained in jujitsu. He was 21-13 as an MMA fighter before switching to boxing last summer.

Former UFC champion unresponsive after crash:

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes didn’t suffer any broken bones or internal injuries when his truck collided with a train Friday but remains unresponsive, his family said Sunday. Hughes was airlifted to a medical facility after the accident, which occurred just south of Raymond, Illinois, about 12 miles north of Hughes’ home in Hillsboro. According to Illinois State Police, Hughes, 43, drove a pickup truck across a railroad grade crossing “directly in front of a train, and the train struck the passenger side of the truck” at 10:43 a.m.

Celtics, 76ers swap picks, sources say:

Philadelphia and Boston have agreed in principle on a trade where the 76ers would acquire the chance to take Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, according to sources. The Celtics will get the No. 3 pick, plus an additional first-rounder in either 2018 or 2019. The trade has not been formally approved by the league. The agreement is likely to be finalized today.
