York students stay home:
A threat of violence in Elmhurst kept some York High School teens at home Wednesday. Elmhurst District 205 received anonymous tips Monday about a potential threat made by a student. After an off-campus shooting incident, the student was taken into police custody Tuesday, but officials found no credible threat to the school, ABC 7 reported. A heavy staff and police presence guarded the school and surrounding area, after a student posted an image on social media of a gun and the message “we bout to come back harder.” A York student is also accused of firing a gun at a car window in an off-campus incident on Monday. The student was arrested and a gun found, police said. The student also was suspended. High school Principal Erin DeLuga sent parents an email Wednesday morning alerting them of the situation
Defendant makes outburst:
A Chicago woman accused of supplying her teenage cousin with a gun that she used to kill a 14-year-old rival made an outburst during her trial. The Chicago Sun-Times reported 35-year-old Vandetta Redwood shouted and used an expletive in court on Wednesday during the prosecution’s closing arguments. She is charged with giving a handgun to a juvenile knowing it would be used to commit violence in the April 2014 shooting of Endia Martin. Redwood is also charged with possession of a firearm in a school zone. Redwood said she “didn’t kill no baby” and that others lied about her. Her attorney had to calm her and the judge excused jurors. If convicted, Redwood faces up to 15 years in prison. Her cousin, now 17, is awaiting trial on murder charges.
Boy pulled from pool dies:
A 14-year-old Chicago boy has died after being pulled from a high school swimming pool. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the boy, whose identity hasn’t been released, was pulled from the pool at Kennedy High School on Wednesday before firefighters arrived. Chicago police said an investigation is underway.
Shootings at memorial:
Authorities in Chicago said six people, including a child, were injured in a shooting at a memorial on the city’s South Side. A spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department said five people were shot and another person was hurt in Wednesday night’s violence. All six were taken to hospitals, including one in serious to critical condition. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the child might have suffered a graze wound or another injury from broken glass.
Guglielmi says detectives are searching for a possible motive. Additional details were not immediately available.
