Many of you shoppers out there have been wondering when the new Nordstrom Rack along Randall Road in Algonquin will be opening, so you can start searching for upscale bargains at the department store offshoot.

The storefront is there and construction is underway inside of the store at 1800 S. Randall Road in Algonquin.

However, you’re going to need to wait to start shopping there until this fall.

Algonquin Commons mall officials announced this week that the grand opening for the Nordstrom Rack, which carries name brand clothes, purses, shoes, home goods and more, will be Oct. 27. Luckily, the store will open in plenty of time for holiday and Christmas shopping.

For now, the closest Nordstrom Rack locations are in Schaumburg, Naperville and Rosemont.

The new Algonquin store will be located to the north of Dick’s Sporting Goods and south of Trader Joe’s, in the area where the former PetSmart and Office Depot were located.

Presently, Nordstrom Rack is holding an online hiring event to get ready for the new store opening in Algonquin.

The business is looking for employees for all positions, including loss prevention, stocking, cleaning and retail sales and service.

Closing ceremony: Just like the Olympics, the summer reading program at the Barnes and Noble along Randall Road in Geneva will hold a closing ceremony this month.

The closing ceremony for the store’s Summer Reading Triathlon event will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.

All summer long, kids have been voting in the Geneva store, and at Barnes and Noble stores across the country, for their favorite heroes and places in the books they have been reading.

There still is some time to vote for your favorite, and even to pick up a summer reading journal if you have not done so yet at the store.

You have some time to pick your favorite still, so give it some thought.

The voting for favorite hero and place closes Sunday, Aug. 21.

The local Barnes and Noble store will announce the local winners, as well as national gold, silver and bronze hero and place medal winners at the event Aug. 27.

At the event, there also will be reading program themed activities and kids will get a reward for their summer reading.

The summer reading program will actually continue through Tuesday, Sept. 6, though, so don’t stop logging your time.

Kids in first through sixth grades who have participated in the program, and who have filled out a summer reading journal, will get a free book from the store.

The Barnes and Noble is at 102 Commons Drive in Geneva Commons in Geneva.
