



Blackhawks agree to terms with three international prospects:
The Blackhawks have reached agreements with goaltender Lars Johansson, defenseman Michal Kempny and forward Martin Lundberg on one-year contracts, team officials announced Tuesday. Kempny, a 25-year old native of Hodonin, Czech Republic, had 5 goals and 16 assists through 59 games with the Kontinental Hockey League’s Avangard Omsk. Johansson, a 28-year-old native of Avesta, Sweden, has a 56-27-0 record with 11 shutouts in 93 games over the last three seasons with Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League. In the 2015-16 season, he recorded a 1.74 goals-against average while going 27-6-0. Lundberg, a 25-year-old native of Skelleftea, Sweden, had 13 goals and 8 assists in 44 games with the SHL’s Skelleftea AIK.
Report says BMX rider suffered from CTE:
TORONTO — Doctors have reportedly concluded that BMX rider Dave Mirra, who took his own life in February, suffered from the brain disease CTE. ESPN reports a neuropathologist at the University of Toronto and two others have confirmed the diagnosis. CTE is short for chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which has been tied to repeated brain trauma and associated with symptoms such as memory loss, depression and progressive dementia. Mirra died at age 41 on Feb. 4 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Bradley Jr.’s hitting streak up to 28 games:
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. has extended his hitting streak to 28 games with a second-inning double Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies. It’s the longest hitting streak in the majors this season and tied with Wade Boggs (1985) for the fifth-longest in Red Sox history. Dom DiMaggio holds the franchise record with a 34-game streak in 1949. DiMaggio’s brother, Joe, hit in 56 straight games in 1941 for the major league record.
Vogelsong remains hospitalized:
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong remained hospitalized with swelling and multiple facial fractures on Tuesday, a day after the veteran took a 92 mph fastball to the head from Colorado pitcher Jordan Lyles. Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk said Vogelsong was “in good spirits” but added that doctors would not be able to determine the extent of the damage around Vogelsong’s left eye until the swelling subsided. Vogelsong was batting with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning Monday when a Lyles pitch caught Vogelsong flush.
Chiefs’ Woodford mows down Cougars:
Peoria’s (22-22) Jake Woodford (3-3) tossed an efficient game and the Cougars (22-22) only managed 4 hits, falling short in Game 1 of a three-game series at Dozer Park, 4-0. Joel Payamps (1-3) was masterful in relief of Carlos Hernandez (3-3), but the two pitchers could not repeat a shutout they combined for against the Chiefs on May 19.
Boomers split doubleheader with Slammers:
JOLIET — The Schaumburg Boomers, split a home and home doubleheader with the Joliet Slammers on Tuesday, The Boomers snapped a franchise record 8-game losing streak with a 5-2 road win in Game 2 of the doubleheader on Tuesday night. In Game 1, the Boomers rallied to score 3 runs in the seventh inning to tie the game 5-5, but ultimately lost 10-7 in 12 innings.
With the game tied in the top of the fifth, Justin Byrd delivered a two-run single to give the Boomers the lead for good. James Keller added a two-run busted bat single in the ninth to cap the scoring. The runs were enough for Seth Webster, who worked seven innings to win for the first time this season. Webster fanned seven. Keller posted a pair of hits in the win while Chris Robinson reached base three times and scored twice.
