New accessible playground:

Hillcrest School in Downers Grove District 58 will open the first all-accessible playground at a DuPage County public school at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the school, 1435 Jefferson Ave. Called Owen’s Playground, the $600,000 development is a result of a two-year community effort led by parent Peg Chaidez and an organization she created called Dream Build Play Experience, and Abide In Me, a Lemont nonprofit that helps people with disabilities lead active lives. The playground offers a recycled rubber surface, a relaxation station for quiet reading, double-wide ramps, climbing structures, adaptive swings, and wheelchair-accessible playground equipment. Bollywood in Aurora:

Aurora will host its first Bollywood Night with a free dusk showing of the movie “Om Shanti Om” on Saturday at the Phillips Park sledding hill, 1150 Howell Place. The event will be hosted by the city’s Indian-American Community Outreach Advisory Board as a special edition of the Movies in the Park series. Prairie tour at COD:

A tour of the Russell Kirt Prairie at the College of DuPage is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 24. Participants will learn about the wildlife and how to identify some of the more than 100 species of native plants found throughout the preserve. For details, email randa@cod.edu.
