Sugar Grove Closet open:

Conley Outreach Community Services’ Good Samaritan Clothing Closet in the Sugar Grove Community House, 141 Main St., features free clothes for all sizes and ages. It is open to anyone living in the Kaneland 302 school district and is not limited by income or need. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday (and the third Wednesday of the month) and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday (and the third Thursday of the month). Genealogy meeting in Elgin:

The Elgin Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. Thursday in the first-floor meeting room of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. Gordon Struve of the Northeast Washing-ton Genealogical Society in Colville, Washington, presents “Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War: They Wore Union Blue.” He’ll give a brief review of the Civil War era, the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic, and then the creation of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. The Free Third Friday Community Dinner is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva. Dundee-Crown’s 50th reunion:

The Dundee-Crown High School Class of 1966 will hold its 50th reunion from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 18 at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee. All alumni are invited. Cost is $25 per person. How to help tutor adults:

The Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley has about 150 trained volunteer tutors working with adult students and more are needed. A four-session tutor training workshop is 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 6, 8, 13 and 15, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. The program provides material and training so that anyone can be a tutor. Each tutor meets with one adult student for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient.
