Hawks preseason tickets:

The Blackhawks announced Thursday that single-game tickets for the team’s 2016 preseason home games at the United Center will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8. Fans will be able to purchase tickets on chicagoblackhawks.com or by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. The Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at the United Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to open their preseason slate. They will also face off against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, Oct. 1, and the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Boomers lose 7-1:

The Schaumburg Boomers suffered a 7-1 loss Thursday in the final game of a three-game stint in Kentucky against the Florence Freedom. Starter Kagen Hopkins lasted just 4 innings, a season low. Hopkins was victimized for a season-high 7 runs, 6 earned.

Bandits fall to Pride 6-3:

The Chicago Bandits lost 6-3 Thursday to the USSSA Pride at The Ballpark at Rosemont. USSSA’s Kelly Kretschman went 3-for-3 with a home run, 2 doubles and 5 RBI. Brittany Cervantes launched her seventh home run of the season for the Bandits, a solo shot.

Cougars win in the rain:

Winning their fourth straight game, the Kane County Cougars rolled past the Beloit Snappers Thursday in a rain-shortened 6-1 contest. The Cougars pounded out 10 hits including a 2-run homer from Gerard Hernandez. On the mound, Emilio Vargas (3-5) garnered the victory, spinning 5 innings on 1 run with 10 strikeouts.

Peterson suspension upheld:

A federal appeals court has ruled that the NFL was within its rights when it suspended Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson in 2014 after he was charged with child abuse. A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that an arbitrator acted appropriately by upholding Commissioner Roger Goodell’s suspension of Peterson for six games> Peterson was suspended in 2014 under the league’s personal conduct policy after he was charged with child abuse over disciplining his son with a wooden switch.

Looking for Romo’s backup:

The Cowboys are in no rush to get a veteran quarterback behind Tony Romo, even though executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones has said they want to add one after Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in training camp. Dallas was in on the pursuit of free agent Nick Foles a day after Moore’s injury in practice Tuesday, but the former NFC East rival in Philadelphia agreed to a deal with Kansas City. For now, the Cowboys will give longer looks to a pair of young players with no NFL experience: rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott and second-year player Jameill Showers.

Hoping for a Ryder spot:

English golfers Chris Wood and Matt Fitzpatrick secured easy first-round wins at the Paul Lawrie Match Play on Thursday as they look for a victory to cement a place in Europe’s Ryder Cup team for the first time. Wood recovered from losing the first hole to Brett Rumford and won 4 and 3, while Fitzpatrick powered into a 6-up lead after nine holes before closing out a 4-and-3 win over Thomas Bjorn. Wood is the top-seeded player at Archerfield in Scotland and currently occupies a spot in the European team.
