Genevieve Rouse recently celebrated her 100th birthday in the village of Mundelein, a community she has called home for more than 75 years.

During this time, Rouse has witnessed firsthand Mundelein’s growth from a small village into a vibrant and progressive community of nearly 32,000 residents.

To commemorate this special occasion, the Mundelein Board of Trustees recently presented her with a mayoral proclamation at a board meeting to formally recognize Rouse for her many years as a Mundelein resident, neighbor, and friend in the year of her 100th birthday.

The proclamation mentions that Rouse was a loving, caring and supportive wife to her late husband, Stanley Rouse, a man who dedicated his life to serving the Mundelein community.

It also mentions the couple’s great love of nature, their passion for protecting the environment for future generations, and their abundant raspberry patch, from which many friends shared, quite literally, the fruits of their labor.

Rouse is well-known for her kind, generous and charitable heart throughout her many years, exemplified by her efforts to provide meals for funeral gatherings with Community Protestant Church, where she has been a member for more than 75 years.

Still today, her true passion is baking, an interest she discovered in her youth, and her continued devotion to the craft has cultivated a fond reputation among those who know her.
