


Comeback victory for Cougars:
In a come-from-behind victory, the Kane County Cougars (32-24) took down the Peoria Chiefs (24-33) in game one of a three-game series, the first meeting between the two clubs. A 3-2 final, the Cougars scored 3 runs on 6 straight hits in a go-ahead sixth inning. The decisive RBI came on a Manny Jefferson line drive single. It was also a victory for the Cougars behind a strong start from winning right-hander Sam McWilliams (7-2).
Bandits win; Sky loses:
The Chicago Bandits squeaked out a 1-0 win against the Beijing Shougang Eagles, the NPF’s newest franchise, while setting the record for quickest game recorded in Bandits history at a rapid 1 hour, 22 minutes.
• In a late WNBA game, the Chicago Sky (1-7) fell to the Sparks 79-70 in Los Angeles.
Steel coach leaving for WCHA:
The Chicago Steel announced Tuesday that associate head coach Dallas Steward will join the Michigan Tech University Huskies (WCHA) as an assistant coach. Steward heads to the NCAA Division I ranks after helping lead the Steel to its first Clark Cup Championship two weeks ago.
Lions lose Decker to injury:
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker has had shoulder surgery and is out indefinitely. Lions coach Jim Caldwell says Decker was injured last week during an offseason workout. Caldwell declines to say how Decker was hurt. Caldwell says anytime a player has surgery, you just don’t know how long a player will be out.
Glendening has ankle surgery:
DETROIT — Detroit Red Wings center Luke Glendening has had surgery on his left ankle and is expected to be out three to four months. The team made the announcement Tuesday, a day after he had a procedure for his broken ankle and torn tendons. Glendening missed the last seven games of the regular season, finishing with 3 goals and 11 assists.
