Rock Elmhurst’s Block

Head to Elmhurst City Centre to send off summer with a musical bang. Elmhurst’s Rock the Block Party, at York and Schiller streets, is a family-friendly street festival featuring local fare and fun musical acts. Dairy Day

Explore life on a dairy farm in the early 1900s at Dairy Day at St. James Farm, on Winfield Road, just north of Butterfield Road, Warrenville. Events include a dairy-themed scavenger hunt, a hay maze, covered-wagon rides and more. Guests can try milking “Maggie the Milking Cow” and also see a real cow. Free. Block Party with Indy

Indiana Jones under the stars on the big screen! See the 1981 action/adventure film “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” starring Harrison Ford, when Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, hosts its Block Party and Movie Under the Stars. Food tastings (for purchase), an up-close look at a boa constrictor with staff from the Wildlife Discovery Center, musical performances and more round out the fun. Parade on water

Join in or simply watch the boat parade go by at the 18th Annual Venetian Night on Island Lake and in Eastway Park, 3718 Eastway

Drive, Island Lake. This year’s theme is “Down on the Farm.” Trophy will be awarded to the boat best conveying the theme. After the parade, boats will anchor at Eastway Park for a floating picnic. Tails on the Trails

Bring your canine pal for a stroll on 16 miles of hiking trails at the Tails on the Trails event at the Morton Arboretum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle. Guests can purchase pet supplies at a pet expo, watch demonstrations and meet dogs who are available for adoption. Pets can play games, including a peanut butter-licking contest. ‘BLOW UP’

The Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave., hosts the Midwest premiere of “BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art.” The exhibit, organized by the Bedford Gallery in California, looks at how artists use air as a tool in large-scale sculptures.
