Community service: Started the Dodgin’ 4 Lou Gehrig’s Disease Dodgeball Tournament in 2011 when they found out their gym teacher’s wife (Denise DiMarzo) had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. The annual event has raised more than $100,000 for the Les Turner ALS foundation.
Delaney’s personal statement: “There are so many rewards from just volunteering, such as the satisfaction of helping others and fulfilling one’s obligation to be a responsible member of their community. Volunteering often affords us an opportunity to understand how someone in need feels and what they go through.”
Taylor’s personal statement: “She (Denise DiMarzo) has taught me to never give up, to always stay positive no matter the situation, and, most importantly, not to take life for granted.”
