It’s that time of year when parents and students are getting ready to go back to school. For some parents, this time of year can be especially stressful with the additional cost of school supplies, uniforms, shoes, backpacks, etc.
This year, Experian employees from the Schaumburg office decided to help out parents at the local Boys & Girls Club in Elgin with these expenses.
More than 50 Experian team members collected enough money to buy more than 250 uniforms for Elgin Area School District U-46 students who attend the club.
Families were chosen based on need, and some children received three new uniforms to start off the school year.
CEO Cathy Malkani stated, “Families were extremely grateful to the Experian team. It is great to see children attend school the first day confident in their new clothes and ready for their school year. It makes a big difference, and puts big smiles on their faces.”
Experian has donated hundreds of hours to help out the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin over the last three years, from renting out a movie theater for members to watch the first showing of major movies like “Finding Dory,” to playing the teens in basketball, to field trips to DePaul basketball games.
“Experian is like a family to us. The team at Experian goes above and beyond to connect with our members. We are extremely grateful for their generous contributions of time and money,” Malkani said.
The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
The club, which operates in one 15,000-foot clubhouse and in eight school sites in Elgin, will be serving more than 700 youth every day this school year.
The primary outcomes of the club are academic success, healthy lifestyles, character, and civic leadership.
