


Libertyville arts commission:
A fine arts commission has been created in Libertyville. The village board on Tuesday approved the measure as recommended by its special projects committee. The commission will be composed of seven members appointed by Mayor Terry Weppler with the board’s consent. The group will promote fine arts month, establish donation guidelines and a review process, and make recommendations on the placement of purchased, commissioned or donated public art.
Fire Safety Expo Saturday:
The Gurnee Fire Department will take part in its 20th annual Fire Safety Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Parking Lot E (near Value City Furniture) at Gurnee Mills. The free event, presented by the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, combined fire safety education with family fun. Among the activities are a kids challenge, rides on fire trucks, a police K-9 demonstration, a Seat Belt Convincer Rollover Simulator, and chances to slide down a fire pole. There also will be food, a kids safety identification booth and special “Passport to Safety” for kids younger than 10.
Car Fun on 21 returns:
MainStreet Libertyville’s Car Fun on 21 will open its 15th season from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 17. Vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles will be parked on Church Street and Cook Avenue in downtown Libertyville. Food will be available for purchase, and Sneezy, a popular local band, will perform. Volunteers will be available at the Brainerd Avenue entrances beginning at 5 p.m. to help anyone interested in displaying a car. Gurnee police awards Monday:
The annual Gurnee police awards program will take place Monday during a village board meeting set to begin at 7 p.m. at village hall, 325 N. O’Plaine Road. Similar to past years, there will be the Traffic Enforcement Award, the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists DUI Award and the DUI Enforcement Award.
