Anyone who’s wondered what it takes to become an engineer is invited to come to the College of Lake County on Thursday, Sept. 29, to learn about careers in engineering and computer science and meet with representatives from area engineering schools. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Lower Level C Wing on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Engineering Night is part of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Speaker Series, which is free and open to high school students and their parents.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Due to construction, attendees should enter the C Wing entrance on campus’ south side and sign in at the lower level of the C Wing, outside the auditorium (Room C005).

From 5:30-6:50 p.m., students can mix and mingle with professional engineers to learn about the various engineering professions such as civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, etc. At 7 p.m. in C005, keynote speaker Dr. Federico Sciammarella, of the mechanical engineering department at Northern Illinois University, will present “How to Join the 3-D Printing Revolution.”

During the remainder of the evening, from 7:45-9:30 p.m., students and their parents may visit classrooms to learn more about the college and university programs.

Representatives from area schools will include CLC Engineering, Illinois Tech, Northern Illinois University and Michigan Technical University. Other schools include the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
