WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — When Caleb Swanigan and Isaac Haas are in sync, it’s difficult trying to name a better power forward-center combination in college basketball.

No. 21 Purdue’s two interior players certainly were in sync Tuesday night against outmanned Illinois.

Haas had 24 points and 6 rebounds, and power forward Swanigan added 22 points and 10 rebounds in the Boilermakers’ dominating 91-68 victory.

Haas scored 13 points in the second half when the Boilermakers (15-4, 4-2 Big Ten) led by as many as 27. Swanigan had a 4-point first half but was almost unstoppable during the second half, accounting for 18 points and 5 rebounds.

“It was Illinois’ game plan not to double us,” Swanigan said. “You could hear their coaches yelling to them to pressure the ball. That was their game plan, and we had success with it.”

Illinois (12-7, 2-4) got 15 points from Maverick Morgan and 12 from Malcolm Hill but had no answer for the Boilermakers’ two post players, each of whom had his way around the basket.

“With that team, you kind of have to pick your poison,” Illinois coach John Groce said. “They have two great post players, and then they surround them with good shooters.”

Kentucky 88, Miss. State 81:

STARKVILLE, Miss. — De’Aaron Fox scored 21 points, Malik Monk added 14 and No. 5 Kentucky beat Mississippi State. Kentucky (16-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) looked like it would cruise to the win after building a 66-49 lead midway through the second half, but Mississippi State responded with 13 straight points to make things interesting down the stretch.

Mississippi State (12-5, 3-2) was led by freshman Lamar Peters, who scored a career-high 25 points.

Baylor 74, Texas 64:

WACO, Texas — Johnathan Motley set career highs with 32 points and 20 rebounds for Baylor, which went ahead to stay with a big run before halftime. Nuni Omot, the junior college transfer playing in only his eighth game, had a season-high 14 points. He scored 7 in the half-ending 16-4 run that put the Bears (17-1, 5-1 Big 12) up for the first time.

Jarrett Allen had 17 points for the Longhorns (7-11, 1-5), while Andrew Jones had 15.

Wisconsin 68, Michigan 64:

MADISON, Wis. — Bronson Koenig scored 16 points, 10 in a key run that turned the game around for Wisconsin. Michigan (12-7, 2-4 Big Ten) seemed to have Wisconsin (15-3, 4-1) on the ropes at one point in the second half. Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ went to the bench with his third foul early and could largely only watch as the Wolverines went on a 17-2 run that put them up 38-30. The Wolverines even hit 3s on consecutive possessions after Wisconsin tied the game at 43-43.

UIC 71, Milwaukee 57:

Tai Odiase scored 20 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and swatted away 6 shots as Illinois-Chicago defeated Milwaukee, leading from start to finish.

Odiase has 205 career blocks for the Flames (11-8, 4-2 Horizon League). Bryce Nze led Milwaukee with 22 points on 10-for-12 shooting as the Panthers (5-14, 1-5) held a slim 38-34 edge on points in the paint.

NIU 62, Miami (Ohio) 58:

DEKALB — Eugene German scored 12 points and Marin Maric added 11 while grabbing 12 rebounds as Northern Illinois held off a late rally to beat Miami (Ohio).

German was 5 of 6 from the floor. Jaylen Key and Dontel Highsmith added 10 apiece for the Huskies (12-6, 4-1 Mid-American Conference), who have won four consecutive and eight of their last nine games. Weathers led the RedHawks (8-10, 1-4) with 18 points.

Women

UConn 98, Tulsa 58:

TULSA, Okla. — Katie Lou Samuelson scored a career-high 34 points to help No. 1 UConn beat Tulsa 98-58 on Tuesday night for the Huskies’ 92nd consecutive victory. The Huskies (17-0, 5-0 American Athletic Conference), also won their 33rd straight road game.

Shug Dickson scored 21 points for Tulsa (5-13, 1-4).
