Childhood resources fair:
Naperville Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 204 will sponsor the ninth annual Early Childhood Community Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, 1011 S. Naper Blvd., Naperville. The event will display information about more than 60 resources available to families with children up to 5 years old. The free event also includes a Touch-a-Truck assortment of vehicles, story times in English and Spanish, musical entertainment, free dental screenings by the DuPage County Health Department’s Smile Squad and raffles for prizes. Fiestas Patrias grand marshal:
Army veteran Juan Reyna of Aurora has been named the grand marshal for the Fiestas Patrias Parade, set for 11 a.m. Sept. 17 in downtown Aurora and sponsored by the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Mayor Richard Irvin will recognize Reyna at a reception at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, before the city council meeting at 6 p.m. at 44 E. Downer Place, during which the grand marshal also will be honored. Reyna, the Aurora Township highway commissioner, also has served as a Kane County Board member and an Aurora Township trustee after completing five years active duty in the Army. He was nominated as grand marshal by the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council and the Miss Fiestas Patrias Pageant Committee. The parade Reyna will lead steps off from River and Benton streets, then heads east on Benton, north on Broadway and west on Downer Place.
I Support Community race:
The Naperville nonprofit I Support Community is sponsoring its annual 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Sept. 24 at Danada Forest Preserve, 3S580 Naperville Road, Wheaton. The event raises money for the Inside Out Club, which introduces kids to volunteering opportunities and teaches them character — inside and out. Registration is $25 for teens and adults and $15 for kids ages 4 to 11. Race day registration is available 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., or participants can register in advance at isupportcommunity.org.
