The Johnson Insurance Agency Inc. is the oldest continuous business in Elk Grove Village. The company moved to Elk Grove Village in 1958 and was operated out of a home owned by George and Barbara Johnson, who ran the business together.

The Johnsons started the business in 1955 on Chicago’s Northwest Side before moving to Elk Grove in 1958, two years after the village was incorporated.

The family was one of the first families to settle in the new suburb, moving into a home on Briarwood Lane, which is in the oldest sections of the village.

The business was run in the family’s one-car garage until the family moved to a bigger house in the village, where the business was run out of a two-car garage.

In 1990, the business was moved to its current location, 450 E. Higgins Road. It’s owned by George and Barbara’s son, Craig Johnson, who is the mayor of Elk Grove Village, and William “Billy” Beaupre, who is Craig Johnson’s brother-in-law.
