Big Ange’s finally opens:

More than three years after receiving village approval, Big Ange’s opened to customers Thursday in Arlington Heights. The restaurant, which specializes in hot dogs, sandwiches, fresh-cut fries and a variety of Italian ices, opened in the former Jimmy’s Place at Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue. Owners John and Angie Fridono said it took longer than they hoped to renovate the place and get open, but they were happy Thursday to welcome the line of customers. Their son, Rocco, who will run the restaurant, was helping cooks get through the first day. Jimmy’s Place was an Arlington Heights institution for more than 50 years before it closed in 2011.

Summer trolley hours are every 30 minutes from noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Des Plaines meeting moves:

Des Plaines Alderman Denise Rodd has moved the location of her June 8 3rd Ward meeting to the Des Plaines Public Library because of the large crowd expected to hear the plans for senior apartments. A representative of Pontarelli Cos. is expected to present plans for a four-story, 80,000-square-foot apartment building on the site of the former Era Tool & Manufacturing Co. on North Avenue between Second and Third avenues. Rodd originally scheduled the meeting for the Prairie Lakes Community Center, but it now is in Meeting Room B of the library, 1501 Ellinwood St. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
