


Dist. 211 candidate forums:
Two candidate forums will take place in March for voters to hear from the six hopefuls seeking three available seats on the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 school board in the April 4 election. The Northwest Suburban Teachers Union Local 1211 School Board Candidate Forum will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria of James B. Conant High School, 700 E. Cougar Trail in Hoffman Estates. The District 211 race also will be highlighted in a League of Women Voters Candidate Forum at 10 a.m. March 18 at Palatine village hall, 200 E. Wood St. The candidates are incumbents Robert LeFevre Jr. and Anna Klimkowicz, former board member Ed Yung and a slate of newcomers including Ralph T. Bonatz, Katherine Jee Young David and Jean Forrest.
TIF district discussion:
Cook County Clerk David Orr will host a Tax Increment Financing Forum on Thursday to address the current state and future of TIFs, with a focus on TIF transparency. The forum is 8:45 a.m. to noon at 69 W. Washington, Chicago, in the 17th floor conference room. Joining Orr in the panel discussions are David Merriman of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Aarti Kotak of the city of Chicago, Alexandra Gilewicz of the Better Government Association, Chicago Alderman Rick Munoz, MarySue Barrett of the Metropolitan Planning Council, Jackson Potter of the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Alderman Scott Waguespack. Windsor School meetings:
The village of Arlington Heights and Arlington Heights Elementary School District 25 will hold two meetings Thursday with parents and neighbors regarding school drop-off and pick-up options at the soon-to-be-expanded Windsor School. The public meetings will include roundtable discussions with village, police, engineering and school district staff about options for improving safety and traffic flow at the school, 1315 E. Miner St. The first meeting will take place at 9:45 a.m. in the Community Room on the third floor of village hall. The second session begins at 7 p.m. in the same location. The school district’s $13.7 million expansion plan has been met with some concerns about its impact on traffic congestion in the surrounding neighborhood. New art at Oakton:
Oakton Community College’s Koehnline Museum of Art will display more than 50 new acquisitions starting Thursday. It is part of the exhibition “Gems from the Koehnline: New Acquisitions,” at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The free display runs through March 23. The public is invited to an opening night reception from 5 to 8 p.m. This exhibit showcases distinguished 20th-century masters, including abstract expressionists Joseph Meert and Ezio Martinelli.Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
