Posada Navideña: Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 340 Grand Blvd. in Elgin, invites the community to a “Posada Navideña,” a bilingual celebration of the Posada with a traditional meal and a piñata for the kids, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16. They will be joined by church members and musicians from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Chicago. The Posada re-creates the journey of Mary and Joseph to find lodging in Bethlehem. It is free. Live Nativity: Every year thousands of people drive to experience the annual Live Drive-Thru Christmas Nativity from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16-17, at Faith World Outreach Church, 1280 S. Route 59 in Bartlett. Admission is free. There will be warm cider and cookies. Learn all about the story of Christmas. Spaghetti benefit: Join a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Chuck Petersen from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Road in Hampshire. A freewill donation will be accepted. There also will be a raffle.
Peterson was recently diagnosed with an aggressive, large-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He has donated so much of his time to various church and community efforts so this is a chance to give back to him. Your support will help offset the medical bills.
He has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Feed My Starving Children. He was a coach for many years for Central District Baseball League and a soccer coach for AYSO. He enjoys playing the trumpet and has performed at ECC and other venues. A lifelong member of St. Peter, he has served as choir director, bell choir founder, and director, as well as Sunday school teacher. He was integral in starting Little Saints Preschool where he served on the board for many years.
A lifelong resident in the Elgin area, Chuck is the owner-operator of Reed Septic Service and Warfel’s Multi-Flo.
His family includes his wife, Christy, and two sons, Dan and Matt. Matt is a senior at Burlington Central High School and Dan, a 2015 graduate, is currently attending Elgin Community College.

Christmas worship: First Congregational Church of Dundee, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee, will celebrate Christmas Eve with three services at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. with readings and carols sung by all. The Christmas messages will be delivered by the Rev. Paige Wolfanger, associate pastor; and the Rev. Aaron James, senior pastor.
Children and adults will enjoy a family-friendly service at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by the Melody Singers, kindergarten through third-grade vocal choir; the Joy Ringers, fourth- to eighth-grade handbell choir; and the Harmony Singers, fourth- to eighth-grade vocal choir. Traditional candlelight services will be held at 9 and 11 p.m. During the 9 p.m. worship, vocal music will be sung by the High School Singers, ninth- to 12th-grade choir directed by Denise Caliendo.
