No dismissal in Rose sex suit:

LOS ANGELES — A federal judge has refused to dismiss a lawsuit alleging New York Knicks player Derrick Rose and two friends drugged and gang-raped a woman. On Wednesday, federal Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald said a jury must decide whether to believe Rose’s contention that the woman, a former lover, consented to group sex at her home in 2013. The case could now go to trial in October, when Knicks training camp gets underway. Messages left for Rose’s agent, B.J. Armstrong, were not immediately returned Saturday. Rose has denied the allegations, and his lawyer has labeled the lawsuit an extortion attempt.

Cougars outduel LumberKings:

In one of the fastest and well-played pitcher’s duels of this season, the Kane County Cougars (12- 23, 45-60) came out with a 1-0 victory atop the first place Clinton LumberKings (24-11, 64-42). Although Clinton out hit the Cougars seven to three, the Cougars used a fourth inning RBI double from Trevor Mitsui to support starter Emilio Vargas (2-5) in his quality outing.

Boomers lose in extra innings:

The Schaumburg Boomers limited the Southern Illinois Miners to just 4 hits but suffered a 4-3 loss in 13 innings on Saturday night. Brett Mabry threw 7 innings and allowed just 1 unearned run in his second start since returning from injury. Paul Kronenfeld doubled twice in the game and drew 3 walks.

Red Stars undefeated at home:

The Battle of the Midwest was just that as the Chicago Red Stars battled to a 1-0 victory against the reigning National Women’s Soccer League Champions FC Kansas City, furthering their undefeated streak to three games. It was in the 53rd minute that the Red Stars were able to take the lead as the newest Red Star player Stephanie McCaffrey rebounded a deflection from Huerta’s close-range shot to tap it into the net, earning her first goal for Chicago and first goal in the 2016 season.

Jutanungarn has 2-stroke lead:

WOBURN, England — Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn took the Women’s British Open lead Saturday at tree-lined Woburn. Jutanugarn shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 to pull two strokes ahead of Mirim Lee. Jutanugarn birdied six of the first 14 holes and closed with four pars to reach 16-under 200 and break the tournament 54-hole scoring record. She chipped in from 90 feet for birdie on No. 8 and made a 30-footer on 10. Lee shot a 69.

Texans’ Hopkins holding out:

HOUSTON — Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins did not report to training camp Saturday. Entering his fourth pro season, Hopkins is holding out for a new contract. He is scheduled to make $1 million in salary in the final season of his rookie contract, though the Texans have picked up his fifth-year option. Hopkins can be fined up to $40,000 for every day he misses camp. He comes off a huge season with 111 receptions, 1,521 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns despite inconsistency at quarterback and few other receiving options on the Texans.

Kemp traded to Braves:

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have acquired pricey slugger Matt Kemp and cash considerations from San Diego for troubled outfielder Hector Olivera. The Braves have tried for several months to unload Olivera following his April 13 arrest on domestic violence charges. Kemp has a $21.5 million salary this year and is owed the same amount in each of the next three seasons. Olivera has a $4 million salary this year and is owed $6 million next year, $6.5 million in 2018, $7.5 million in 2019 and $8.5 million in 2020.

Rea injured in Marlins debut:

MIAMI — The Miami Marlins’ big win might have come with a price. Newly acquired Colin Rea left early with an elbow injury in his Miami debut in the Marlins’ 11-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. “We obviously needed the win, but it’s not at that cost,” Marlins reliever David Phelps said. Rea, acquired in a trade with San Diego, pitched 3? scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 4.
