Hanover Twp. trustee resigns:
Citing time constraints with his job, Hanover Township Trustee Howard K. Krick resigned this week after seven years in the township board. “Howard served the township with distinction and true passion for the township’s mission,” Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire said. Krick’s resignation will take effect on Oct. 26. The Hanover Township board is seeking applications to fill his term until May 2017. Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old and have resided within Hanover Township for at least one year. Send a letter of interest and resume to 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett, Illinois, 60103, attention Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire, or email supervisor@hanover-township.org. Applications must be received by the close of business Friday, Oct. 28. The board hopes to appoint a replacement at its Nov. 1 meeting.
Drug take-back event Oct. 22:
The Hoffman Estates Police Department will partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for a drug disposal event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the police station, 411 W. Higgins Road. Residents will be able to safely dispose of unwanted prescription pills, including controlled substances, which have not been previously accepted by the Solid Waste Agency of Cook County. Participants can drop off pills with or without containers. No liquids or needles will be accepted at the event. For additional information, contact Sgt. Comment on IDOT plan:
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking input on the development of the upcoming multiyear program for fiscal years 2017-2022. The six-year plan details how IDOT will prioritize the state’s highway and bridge work. The proposal includes more than $11 billion in projects, with more than $2 billion in projected spending for fiscal year 2017. The public can give input on the plan at webinars scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Sheriff sets meetings:
Lake County sheriff’s police will host a series of town-hall meetings starting in November. Officials said five sessions will be spread across Lake County. Sheriff Mark Curran, Undersheriff Ray Rose and others from the office are expected at each town-hall meeting meant to address issues such as implementation of body cameras, mental health initiatives and procedural justice programs. The first session is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Rondout Elementary School, 28593 N. Bradley Road near Lake Forest.
New Des Plaines playground:
South Elementary School in Des Plaines will dedicate a new playground on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The original playground structure was more than 25 years old. Des Plaines Elementary District 62 got a $43,505 grant from Rivers Casino to help pay for a new one. “We believe that a new structure would not only help meet the physical, social and sensory needs of our students, but also provide a gathering place and safe haven for families and children throughout the community,” Principal Amy Cengel said in a news release. The dedication is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the school, 1535 Everett Ave.
