‘Back to School Bash’ in Elgin:
The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin, 355 Dundee Ave., will host its first “Back to School Bash” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. There will be food, a bike raffle, backpack giveaways and games. ‘Comedy of Errors’ today:
Janus Theatre Company, in collaboration with Chicago’s Unrehearsed Shakespeare Company, presents an outdoor performance of “The Comedy of Errors” in Mural Alley, 66 S. Spring St., directly across from Elgin ArtSpace Lofts in downtown Elgin. The performance is 1:30 p.m. today. It is free but donations are welcome. Reservations can be made at janusplays.com. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy this fast-paced show, which will be presented using unrehearsed performance techniques.
Elgin Elks anniversary:
Join the Elgin Elks in celebrating its 114th anniversary of Lodge 737’s founding. There will be an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge, 141 W. River Road. How to be a CASA volunteer:
You can help give abused or neglected children a voice in court. CASA Kane County will hold general information meetings for people 21 and older interested in becoming a court appointed special advocate volunteer for abused and neglected children. The next sessions are 9 to 10 a.m. Monday and Sept. 12 and 19; 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Aug. 31, Sept. 7 and 14; 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 15 and 22; and 11 a.m. to noon Fridays, Aug. 26, Sept. 2 and 9 at the CASA office in the Kane County courthouse, 100 S. Third St., fourth floor, Geneva. Evening informational sessions are 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N. Broadway, Aurora; Sept. 20 at Elgin Public House, 219 E. The Aurora Public Library Foundation offers a chance to win a $300 Amazon gift card for a $33.33 donation to help prepare a child for kindergarten. The Kiwanis Children’s Center at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library is partnering with Fox Valley United Way’s Strong, Prepared and Ready for Kindergarten, a pilot program to provide 300 at-risk preschoolers with a book a month from September 2016 to May 2017.
