
• Recently retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Michael D. Stevens, the highest ranking enlisted sailor in the U.S. Navy, has been appointed to the board of directors of the National Museum of the American Sailor Foundation in North Chicago.
Stevens, 52, served four years as Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. He retired from the Navy in September 2016. As MCPON, Stevens was responsible for the welfare and morale of all enlisted personnel in the Navy.
“We are honored to have Master Chief Petty Officer Stevens join the board,” said Ken Tucker, President of the National Museum of the American Sailor Foundation. “He brings remarkable naval experience, academic background and a connection to the Navy’s past, present, and future. Master Chief Petty Officer Stevens represents all enlisted sailors and is a prime example of why we are working to build a new National Museum of the American Sailor.”
Raised in Montana, Stevens joined the Navy in 1983 upon high school graduation. He advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in October 2002 and was assigned to Fleet Composite Eight in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, as the Maintenance Master Chief and Command Master Chief. In October 2003, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola and shortly thereafter assumed the duties as the Command Master Chief. In August 2006, he became the Command Master Chief for Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron 14 in Norfolk, Virginia. In September 2007, he was selected by Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic, to serve as the Wing Command Master Chief for the largest Helicopter Wing in the U.S. Navy. Stevens was selected in January 2009 as the Command Master Chief for Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet. From August 2010 to September 2012 following 2nd Fleet, he served as the 16th Fleet Master Chief for Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.
• U.S. Air Force Airman Yzekiel Jeric B. Capili has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Capili is the brother of Jathniel Jerimia B. Capili of Des Plaines.
He is a 2016 graduate of Waukegan High School, Waukegan.
