Join small-business group:

Established almost 10 years ago, the Congregational Church of Batavia Small Business Networking Group attracts between 25 and 40 attendees at each meeting. Meetings are free and open to all small-business owners and those interested in the small-business community. The meetings feature open networking, introductions, announcements and an informational presentation by a member of the group. There are no dues, no requirements for attendance and no requirements to give referrals or leads. Rx disposal program in Elgin:

The Elgin Police Department sponsors a prescription medication disposal program, and a permanent prescription drop box is in the lobby of the police department, 151 Douglas Ave. Medication will be removed and safely destroyed weekly. Residents can dispose of unwanted or unused medication. Medications accepted are tablets, capsules and pills that have been removed from their container or packaging and placed in a sealable clear plastic bag. The police department does not accept sharps, needles, EpiPens, liquid medications or medicines that are brought in from nursing homes, clinics or doctor’s offices. Gull Frolic at yacht club:

Sign up now for the annual Gull Frolic Feb. 11 at Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club in Lake Michigan. It is sponsored by Illinois Ornithological, with help from Illinois Audubon Society and local societies. See waterfowl with help from birding experts. It includes educational seminars, informational displays, and access to the Yacht Club, breakfast and lunch buffets. Tickets are $19. Special animal tracking event:

An animal tracking event is set for today at Volo Bog. Two free sessions of animal tracking are scheduled and will be led by naturalist Stacy Iwanicki. Suitable for visitors age 5 and older, the sessions will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Iwanicki will teach guests how different animals walk and how to understand their track patterns.
