


Master Gardener open house:
The Kane County Master Gardener hosts its final summer open house at the Idea Garden from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. It includes a vintage victory garden, pollinator plots, plants from around the world in a garden shaped like a map, tomatoes grown from second generation seeds from space, a patriotic garden, a color inspiration space, and a shrub plot. It also houses several varieties of tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, and herbs, as well as kiwis and elderberry bushes. The garden is at the Horticulture Research Farm on the corner of Peck Road and Route 38 in St. Charles. Visitors can enter via the Route 38 driveway. Visit web.extension.illinois.edu/dkk.
Garage sale in Dundee Twp.:
The Dundee Township Historical Society’s annual One of a Kind Garage Sale is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the museum parking lot, 426 Highland, West Dundee. No early bird time. The sale will feature collectible dolls, jewelry, garden art, a variety of household items, small furniture, artwork, books, antiques and other collectibles, toys, bikes and tools. Third Tuesday Supper:
The Third Tuesday Suppers are 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St. The Almost Back to School Supper will feature barbecue boneless chicken breasts. Concerts at The Holmstad:
The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, hosts a series of free outdoor evening musical performances as part of its new Summer Concert Series. Ann Stewart and the Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday. This Dixieland band is led by “Diva of Dixieland” Ann Stewart. The group plays everything from Dixieland jazz to swing, blues, big band tunes, and novelty tunes from the 1920s through the 1950s. Space is limited. Elgin Garden Club celebrates:
To celebrate 100 years of gardening by the Elgin Garden Club, garden related programs will be presented at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. The next program is 9:30 a.m. Friday with Laura Mueller, adjunct professor at the Art Institute. The third program at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 will be presented by a representative of the Kew Royal Botanic Gardens in London, England. All programs are free. Auditions for kids chorus:
Fox Valley Children’s Chorus will hold auditions for the 2016-17 season from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 22 in the auditorium at The Holmstad, 700 Fabyan Parkway, Batavia. The chorus is open to children in second grade through high school. There are two choirs: the Apprentice Choir for second to fourth grade and the Concert Choir for fifth-graders through high school. Focusing on vocal training and the performance of fine literature, the chorus sings a variety of literature from the 16th century to contemporary works.
