4 years for driver of stolen car:

A Chicago man who sped away during a traffic stop by Palatine police pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a stolen car. In exchange for his guilty plea, Tomas Arzuaga, 21, was sentenced to four years in prison, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Gerber. Officers stopped Arzuaga about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 19 for a malfunctioning license plate light. After learning the car was stolen, an officer — who recognized Arzuaga — ordered him to shut off the engine. Instead, Arzuaga sped away, driving south on Route 53 at more than 95 miles per hour, authorities said. Chicago police arrested Arzuaga at his home several days later. At the time of his arrest, Arzuaga was on parole for a 2014 conviction for possessing a stolen vehicle.

Shooter killed by police:

Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by Chicago police after he fired at them during a foot chase. The Cook County medical examiner’s office said 33-year-old Richard Grimes of Chicago died at Stroger Hospital early Monday. Late Sunday night, police in the West Garfield Park neighborhood spotted Grimes after a 24-year-old pregnant woman was shot. During a chase, police said, Grimes fired twice at police before officers returned fire. The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. Her baby boy did not survive. Two officers were injured: one with a graze wound and one who injured his leg and reported chest pains.

Davis urges investment:

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis of Chicago is pushing for an anti-poverty plan he says would reduce gun violence in poor communities like the one where his 15-year-old grandson was fatally shot last week. On Monday, the Democratic congressman spoke at Chicago City Hall, surrounded by black lawmakers and activists. He said poverty can drive violent crime and that if more money were invested in poor communities it would reduce the gun violence that has plagued some neighborhoods in Chicago. The city has seen a surge in gun violence this year, and the majority of the nearly 700 homicides — including that of Davis’ grandson Javon Wilson — happened in the city’s poorest communities.
