The children at Messiah Lutheran Child Care Center and Kindergarten supported the Maine Township Food Pantry through their donations of food and pennies.

Throughout the year, the children donated nonperishable food each Wednesday during a weekly morning chapel service. While each year during Lent, the school’s 130 preschool and kindergarten children collect coins in their classrooms to make a financial donation.

The amount collected from all the children this year is $761.26. The children were thrilled to have collected all this money. Since 2002, Messiah’s children have donated more than $9,000 to the food pantry through their Lenten collections.

Messiah Lutheran Child Care Center is at 1605 Vernon Ave., in Park Ridge. Registrations are being accepted for summer and fall programs. Messiah’s hours are 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and classes are available for children 3 years old through junior kindergarten and kindergarten.
