The Bears have re-signed wide receiver and kickoff-returner Deonte Thompson to a one-year contract.
In addition to a league-high 35 kickoff returns, Thompson led the Bears with 804 kickoff-return yards and a 23.0-yard average. Thompson also established personal bests with 22 receptions, 249 receiving yards and the first 2 TD receptions and the first six starts of his five-year career.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Thompson has excellent deep speed, but he is expected to face a challenge as the Bears’ kickoff returner from running back Benny Cunnigham, who was signed on Tuesday. Cunningham’s 27.2-yard kickoff-return average was third best in the NFL last season, when he was with the St. Louis Rams.
