Vikings’ Peterson a free agent:

MINNEAPOLIS — Adrian Peterson, Minnesota’s all-time leading rusher and a first-team All-Pro pick in four of his 10 seasons with the Vikings, will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career when the market opens next week. The Vikings as expected said Tuesday they will not exercise their option for 2017 on Peterson’s contract, which called for him to make $18 million.

Washington tags Cousins:

WASHINGTON — In a move that seemed the most likely at this point in the odd dance between Kirk Cousins and Washington, the team placed the exclusive franchise tag on the starting quarterback on Tuesday. Washington announced the news one day before the deadline for assigning tags to players. Coming off a pair of statistically impressive seasons, and a nearly $20 million salary under the franchise tag last season, Cousins is now in line for a one-year salary of about $24 million.

Chiefs part ways with Charles:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with four-time Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles on Tuesday, clearing more than $6 million in salary cap space by drawing the curtain on an unforgettable era. And that money was put to quick use as the Chiefs finalized a $78 million, six-year deal with All-Pro safety Eric Berry and signed offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to a $41.25 million, five-year extension.

Jets release Revis:

NEW YORK — The New York Jets have informed cornerback Darrelle Revis that they are releasing him, ending his second tenure with the team which was marked by a slip in play because of injuries and age. Revis, 31, was scheduled to make $15 million, including a $2 million roster bonus, next season.

Mets’ Wright out two weeks:

New York Mets third baseman David Wright was told Tuesday not to throw for two weeks after an examination in New York showed an impingement in his right shoulder. The third baseman will be re-evaluated after two weeks. The 34-year-old team captain is a seven-time All-Star, but he’s been limited to 75 regular-season games during the past two years. “He’s having real trouble getting his arm extended on the throws,” manager Terry Collins said.

Colts’ Parry charged in assault:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman David Parry has been arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, on suspicion of assaulting the driver of a motorized cart and then stealing and crashing the vehicle. Police say the 24-year-old showed signs of impairment when arrested early Saturday morning near where the cart was found crashed. According to police, the driver had picked up Parry and two other people and that the alleged assault and theft occurred after the driver dropped off the other two people and got out to be paid.

Preds’ Forsberg stays hot:

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Filip Forsberg scored 2:45 into overtime and the Nashville Predators came back to beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 on Tuesday night for their fourth straight win. Forsberg had a goal and an assist in the final nine minutes of the third period. Forsberg has 10 goals and 4 assists during a 6-game point streak.

Ex-Sabre won’t face charges:

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former NHL player Andrew Peters won’t face charges following an on-ice brawl involving the youth hockey team he coaches in Buffalo. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn’s office and Buffalo police began looking into the Saturday fight after video appeared to show Peters reaching across the Buffalo Junior Sabres’ bench and shoving a player from the opposing Canadian team backward onto the ice.

Chicago Bandits sign 2:

In coordination with Softball Australia, the Chicago Bandits have signed utility players Chelsea Forkin and Taylah Tsitsikronis to contracts running through the 2017 National Pro Fastpitch season, general manager Toni Calmeyn announced on Tuesday.
