Cuba Road, Deer Park, at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 11, and 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 13. Volunteers should dress in long pants and sturdy shoes; bring work gloves. No prior experience is necessary. Tee Off for Teen Moms: 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, White Deer Run Golf Club, Vernon Hills. Tee off for teen parents at the Kindred Life Golf Outing and play a round of golf with Bears players Desmond Clark and Donnell Woolford. Kindred Life Ministries is a nonprofit Christian organization devoted to the physical, emotional and spiritual growth of teenage mothers and fathers, their young children and extended family. There will also be an online auction with gift baskets, trips and golf items signed by athletes. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. $125. McHenry Kiwanis Soap Box Derby: 9 p.m. Saturday June 10, Waukegan Road crossing Green Street, McHenry. Boys and girls ages 8-13 can compete in the 15th annual Soap Box Derby. The event begins with a parade, followed by the race at 9:45 a.m. Drivers should weigh less than 130 pounds and be no more than 5-feet, 3-inches tall. Each child will run in at least two heats, along with additional practice laps. While the cars are already constructed, success in the race involves the ability of each driver to get the most out of their car. The winner of the McHenry Kiwanis Soap Box Derby will compete July 16-22 in the 80th annual All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship Race in Akron, Ohio. Visit www.mchenrykiwanis.org.
Citizenship Class: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, Wauconda Area Public Library, 801 N. Main St., Wauconda. Anyone getting ready to take the exam to become a U.S. citizen can let Mano a Mano help prepare. Vernon Township Community Garage Sale: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday June 10, Prairie View Metra Station, 2701 Main St., Buffalo Grove. Vernon Township will be holding its ninth annual Community Garage Sale. Over 65 participants will be selling their unwanted treasures rain or shine. Proceeds from the sale of the spots benefit the Vernon Township Food Pantry.
