In the five games before this season’s first Bears-Packers game on Oct. 20, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers had not been having a typical Aaron Rodgers season.
The Packers’ quarterback has the highest career passer rating (103.8) in NFL history. But before the Bears game, he was at 87.5 with 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
Starting with the 26-10 victory over the Bears, though, Rodgers’ passer rating is 108.2. He has thrown 22 touchdown passes and just 3 interceptions, none in his last four games.
“He never looked like he was off to me,” said Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Thursday. “You’ve just got to keep playing against these guys. He’s so good and so confident, and he’s played in one system his entire career. He knows, and they know as coaches, how to adjust.”
For the Bears, it was death by paper cuts in that first game, as Rodgers completed a Packers-record 39 passes for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Rodgers has not practiced this week because of a strained calf, but it would be a shock if he didn’t play Sunday, and that’s what the Bears are expecting.
“That’s Aaron Rodgers,” outside linebacker Pernell McPhee said. “Don’t let that (injury) fool you.”
No big deal:
Guard Josh Sitton was waived by the Packers early in September and quickly signed by the Bears.
The three-time Pro Bowl pick missed the first game against his former team in Week 7 with a nagging ankle injury that has forced him to miss three starts. But he was back in the starting lineup last week and expects to start Sunday.
Sitton downplays the revenge aspect of facing his ex-team.
“It’s just another game,” he said. “I don’t think too much about that. I’m not really that type of person in general. I don’t get too emotional or get too high or low about anything. so it’s just the next game for us, a division opponent.”
Injury update:
Wide receivers Marquess Wilson (groin, foot) and Eddie Royal (toe) and nose tackle Eddie Goldman (ankle) did not practice Thursday. Wilson has twice fractured his left foot, and coach John Fox said, “It’s a little bit the same issue. They’re evaluating that.”
Cornerbacks Bryce Callahan (knee) and Johnthan Banks (ankle) and guard Josh Sitton (rest) were limited. Cornerbacks Tracy Porter (knee) and Sherrick McManis (ill) were full participants.
