Amir Coffey scored 17 points, and Nate Mason hit eight free throws in the final 26 seconds to lead Minnesota to a 70-66 victory over Northwestern on Thursday night in Evanston.

Coffey nailed three 3-pointers. Mason came through at the line near the end to finish with 12 points, and the Golden Gophers (14-2, 2-1 Big Ten) picked up another impressive road win after beating then-No. 15 Purdue in overtime on Sunday.

They wiped out a 7-point deficit in the second half and handed Northwestern (12-4, 1-2) its second straight loss after winning nine in a row.

Bryant McIntosh scored 21 and had 5 assists for the Wildcats. The junior became the 34th Northwestern player to hit the 1,000-point mark and tied assistant Pat Baldwin for second on the program’s assist list with 452.

Vic Law added 14 points and 8 rebounds. But the Wildcats took the loss after tying a program record with 13 straight home wins dating to last season.

Gonzaga 95, San Fran. 80:

Nigel Williams-Goss scored a career-high 36 points, and No. 5 Gonzaga used its accurate shooting all over the court to beat San Francisco. Jordan Mathews scored 16 points for the unbeaten Zags (15-0, 3-0 WCC).

Williams-Goss shot 12 for 15 as Gonzaga shot 61 percent, made all nine of his free throws and also had 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the perennial West Coast Conference favorites in their eighth straight win against USF and fifth in a row on the Dons’ home court.

Jordan Ratinho scored 20 points for USF (11-5, 1-2).

Nebraska 93, Iowa 90: (OT)

Glynn Watson Jr. scored a career-high 34 points, Tai Webster made the go-ahead free throw in the last minute of the second overtime, and Nebraska held off Iowa in Lincoln.

The Cornhuskers (9-6, 3-0 Big Ten) are 3-0 in league play for the first time since 1975-76. Peter Jok scored 34 points to lead Iowa (9-7, 1-2), which saw its five-game win streak against Nebraska end.

UCLA 81, California 71:

Bryce Alford scored 16 of his 24 points in a dominant first half, TJ Leaf had a double-double, and No. 4 UCLA defeated California.

Leaf finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double in the Bruins’ fifth straight win over the Golden Bears at Pauley Pavilion. Alford hit five 3-pointers for UCLA (15-1, 2-1 Pac-12). Grant Mullins scored 19 points, and Ivan Rabb had 17 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for the Bears (10-5, 1-2).

Purdue 76, Ohio State 75:

Caleb Swanigan hit a free throw with 5 seconds left and No. 20 Purdue held off an Ohio State comeback in Columbus. Ohio State’s Trevor Thompson tied the score at 75 with a layup with 15 seconds left but missed a subsequent free throw.

Swanigan was fouled on the other end and hit his first free throw and missed the second. C.J. Jackson grabbed the rebound but his 3-point try at the buzzer was off the mark.

Swanigan and Vincent Edwards paced with Boilermakers (13-3, 2-1 Big Ten) with 16 points apiece, and Dakota Mathias added 14.

The Buckeyes (10-5, 0-2 Big Ten) managed to battle back from a 10-point deficit in the second half, with Purdue holding off the furious last-minute rally.

Texas R-G 83, Chicago St. 64:

Nick Dixon scored 26 points to lead Texas-Rio Grande Valley to a victory over Chicago State in a Western Athletic Conference opener.

Mike Hoffman added 12 points and 10 points for his first double-double with the Vaqueros (9-9, 1-0), who won their fourth straight.

Antonio Green, who came in as the nation’s leader with 75 made 3-pointers, sank just 1 of 3 in finishing with 13 points.

Trayvon Palmer had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars (4-13, 0-1), who shot 31 percent in losing their fourth straight. Palmer has seven double-doubles this season.

Gage Loy’s basket gave UTRGV the lead for good midway through the first half which ended with the Vaqueros ahead 42-32.

Morehead St. 85, EIU 75:

Xavier Moon scored 25 points and dished out nine assists as Morehead State pulled away from Eastern Illinois at home.

Treshaad Williams added 22 points on a perfect night shooting, 8 of 8 from the field and 6 of 6 at the line, for the Eagles (5-10, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference). DeJuan Marrero added 16 points, and Morehead State hit 50.9 percent of its shots and 28 of 32 at the free throw line.

Montell Goodwin hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Eastern Illinois (8-7, 0-2).

E. Kentucky 78, SIU-E 61:

Freshman Asante Gist scored a season-high 25 points and Eastern Kentucky defeated SIU-Edwardsville at home.

Gist scored 10 points, including back-to-back 3-point plays, as the Colonels (8-9, 1-1) opened the second half on a 14-7 run. Tre Harris scored 21 points to lead the Cougars (5-11, 0-2), making four 3-pointers. Burak Eslik added 13 points with six rebounds.

Notre Dame 92, Wake Forest 72:

Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points to help Notre Dame beat Wake Forest in South Bend. Brianna Turner added 15 points and six rebounds for the Irish (14-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), Marina Mabrey had 14 points, and Lindsay Allen added 12. Ariel Stephenson scored 17 points for Wake Forest (9-5, 0-1).
