Cal Kirchner, 16, a member of Palatine Boy Scout Troop 188, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Board of Review held July 26 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Palatine.
Cal’s Eagle Service Project supported a local animal shelter, Barb’s Precious Rescue, in Palatine, where he organized, promoted and managed an Open House event to secure donations, as well as showcase the facility to the community with the hope of increasing pet adoptions.
As the second part of his project, he designed, collected building supply donations and built wooden play structures for the cats to enjoy.
As a Scout, Cal earned 32 Merit Badges. He held several leadership positions within the troop, enjoying his position as Troop Guide the most, where he was in charge of training younger Scouts.
Cal is a junior at Palatine High School, where he is an Honor Roll student and plays football and lacrosse.
