The following events and programs are offered at Morton Arboretum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle. Activities are free with admission, unless noted. Enchanted Railroad: Intricate model railroad winds through a four-season display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, through Feb. 19. More than 10 model trains run on a two-level, larger-than-life platform.

Winter Whiskey Dinner: Warm up this winter with a whiskey-inspired dinner paired with whiskey tastings at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. Cost: $90. All guests receive a souvenir tasting glass.

Winter bird walk: Explore the winter landscape with an expert guide, learn to identify the birds that overwinter in Illinois from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 21 or Feb. 18. Cost: $10.

Seed saving workshop: Learn how and why to save your own seeds from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 21. Watch demonstrations and get hands-on practice culling seeds from various edibles. Learn how to store them for future use and how to test the viability of seeds before planting. Cost: $25.

Forest therapy walks: Experience the healing and wellness promoting effects of Shinrin-Yoku, the practice of bathing the senses in the atmosphere of the forest, during a mindful walk with a certified forest therapy guide from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on select Mondays, Jan. 23 through March 20, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on select Saturdays, Jan, 21 through March 25. Walks conclude with tea made from edible plants foraged along the trail. Cost: $25 per class, $115 for a series.

Clearance sale: Shoppers can get deals on holiday merchandise, home décor, clothing, books, jewelry, and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, through Jan. 22, in the Arboretum Store. Members receive a 10 percent discount on top of sale prices. Membership card is required for member discount.

Latin names in nature: Learn to understand the Latin names for plants and animals by relating them to English words from 10 a.m. to noon, Sundays, Jan. 22 and Jan. 29, Look at the common Latin and Greek words used for scientific names and the English words that share the same root. Cost: $44.

Deciduous trees: Learn to identify trees without their leaves from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 22 through Feb. 19. Develop the skills to identify trees on your own using clues found in buds, fruits, leaf scars, bark and branching patterns of winter trees. Different trees are covered in each class; sign up individual classes or take all five sessions for a complete introduction to winter trees. Cost: $144 per class, $188 for five-session class.

Winter pruning: Practice correct pruning techniques and learn which plants to prune now and more importantly, which to prune later, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, or from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Known as “dormant” pruning, thoughtful removal of branches in winter is easy and encourages proper spring growth. Cost: $44.

Winter tree walk: Discover the beauty of trees in winter and learn identification from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 or 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Cost: $25.

Husky Heroes: See Siberian husky sled pulling, skijoring, and speed demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28 and 29. Visit with the dogs and sled team, inspect the equipment, and have your photo taken with the rig during this yearly event. Attendees are asked to leave pets at home.

Ski, snowshoe rentals: Seasonal rentals of cross-country skis and snowshoes are available at the Visitor Center when this is more than four inches of snow on the ground from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in January and February. Full moon walk: Discover what happens at the arboretum at night when no one is around from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11. With the moon shining through the trees, a winter walk reveals a symphony of sounds, mysterious spaces, and wildlife on the move. Discuss night ecology, share stories of moon lore, and enjoy the magic of nature at night. Cost: $10.

Gnome hunt: Find the gnomes hiding in the Children’s Garden from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through February.

Gnome homes: After taking a hike through the Children’s Garden to hunt for all of the hiding gnomes, create a keepsake and light-up gnome home of your own from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends through February. Cost: $10.

Winter play: Come to the Children’s Garden for activities that complement the day, such as painting snow or building a fort, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through February. Self-guided hands on discovery activity.

Reading adventures: Gather from 11 to 11:45 a.m. a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays through February in the Sterling Morton Library for a interactive story time that includes a craft and outdoor adventure walk. Cost: $5.
