Wolves win in shootout:

Kenny Agostino was the lone shootout scorer as the Chicago Wolves outlasted the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 on Friday night at Allstate Arena for their first victory in extra time this season. In regulation, both Agostino and center Wade Megan extended their current point streaks — six and five games, respectively — while Ivan Barbashev, Brett Sterling and Scooter Vaughan all tallied for the Wolves (17-11-3-2) in the Amtrak Rivalry victory.

Steel first team to 20 wins:

Chicago’s special teams played a big role Friday as the Steel (20-5-1-2, 43 pts.) defeated the Green Bay Gamblers (15-12-1-1, 32 pts.) 3-2 at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Jack Badini tallied two short-handed goals in a span of 11 seconds, while Brannon McManus scored a power-play goal in his first home game with the Steel. Ales Stezka made 34 saves. With the victory, first-place Chicago becomes the first team in the USHL to reach 20 wins this season.

Cyclist Kuebler dies at 97:

LONDON — Ferdy Kuebler, who came back from injury and the interruption of World War II to win the 1950 Tour de France, has died. He was 97. The Swiss won an epic battle with French rider Louison Bobet in the 1950 race, and became world champion the following year.

NFL won’t reinstate Smith:

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Suspended Oakland Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith will not be reinstated by the NFL this season. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Friday that the league has deferred a decision on Smith’s petition for reinstatement and will begin consideration in March. Smith had been suspended in November 2015 for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse.

Colts LB Mathis to retire:

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Robert Mathis, 35, will retire after Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after 14 years with the organization, he announced during a news conference Friday. Mathis, who was selected in the fifth round out of Alabama A&M in 2003, spent his entire career with the Colts.

Wildcats LB to enter NFL draft:

Northwestern Wildcats linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. is skipping his final season of eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Walker, a fourth-year junior who redshirted in 2013, announced his decision Friday night on Twitter. Walker recorded 105 tackles this season, including 10 for loss and two sacks, and had a team-high four forced fumbles. The Miami native is expected to earn his degree this spring.

2 Chiefs players fined:

NEW YORK — Two members of the Kansas City Chiefs were docked a total of $30,385 for their actions in their victory over the Denver Broncos last week. Defensive tackle Chris Jones was fined for his forearm shiver to quarterback Trevor Siemian well after the ball was thrown. Also docked was Chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris ($12,154) for using the football as a prop after catching defensive tackle Dontari Poe’s 2-yard touchdown toss.

Celtics’ Thomas scores 52:

BOSTON — Isaiah Thomas set a club record with 29 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with a career-high 52 points and leading the Boston Celtics to a 117-114 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night. Thomas hit six 3-pointers and broke the franchise record of 24 points in a quarter set by Larry Bird in 1983 and matched by Todd Day in 1995.
