3rd Annual Hustle up the Hill for the Homeless: 8 a.m. Sunday, May 21, Blackwell Forest Preserve, Butterfield Road .5 mile west of Winfield Road, Warrenville. The annual run sponsored by St. Irenes Bridge Communities ministry raises funds to support a homeless family in their 2-year journey to regain self-sufficiency through mentorship and assistance. Mt. Hoy is about 15-stories tall, and is widely known as a tough hill to climb, said organizer Mary Rachford. It’s a great metaphor for the uphill battle that many homeless families face trying to get back on their feet. The money we raise helps St. Irene provide housing, food and clothing for the family we sponsor making a real difference in our community. Hustle Run participants are challenged to see how many times they can run or walk up Mt. Hoy in a 30-minute heat. Heats are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. $30.
Walk for Huntington’s Disease: Over 700 participants are expected for the 13th annual Team Hope Walk by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America on Sunday, May 21, in Naperville. The Illinois Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) says volunteers are raising awareness of this devastating genetic neurological disease through their community Team Hope Walk.
