Mount Prospect was honored Tuesday by the International Economic Development Council for its work in encouraging entrepreneurship.
A partnership of the village, the chamber of commerce, the library and the Downtown Merchants Association received a bronze award for the Mount Prospect Entrepreneurs Initiative.
The initiative offers programs designed to guide new and prospective business owners on the path to success.
“Local business endorsements were part of the application package,” said Mayor Arlene Juracek. “We would not have received these awards without local business validation of the high quality of entrepreneurial nurturing in the village.”
The village also received a silver award for Special Purpose Print Brochure for the Mount Prospect Business Resource Guide , which helps inform entrepreneurs of the various local, state and federal requirements of opening a small business.
“Receiving two IEDC Excellence in Economic Development Awards demonstrates the village’s commitment to entrepreneurship. It is indicative of the innovative, quality resources we have made available to support small business in Mount Prospect,” Assistant to the Village Manager Nellie Beckner said in a news release.
