
Queen of the Rosary fifth-grade students completed the 2016 DARE program under the direction of Officer Dave Johnson of the Elk Grove Village Police Department.
Officer Johnson, a crime prevention specialist, engaged the students in discussions about drug safety, peer pressure and making choices. Students learned how to recognize bullying, including cyberbullying, and gained an understanding of the words, empathy, sympathy and apathy.
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, Queen of the Rosary parents attended the DARE culmination ceremony presented by Officer Johnson. Fr. Mike Owen, Fr. Brian Simpson, Chief Schmidt, Sergeant Andrew Jensen, Sergeant Kristen Julian and Lion Butchart were in attendance
At the ceremony, each student was recognized individually and presented with a DARE certificate of achievement.
Congratulations to DARE Student of the Year Emma G., and runner-up Molly B. Congratulations to Reese G, Joseph T., Mia P., and Kris S.., who earned Honorable Mention.
The Lions Club provided DARE T-shirts for each of the students.
