In the spirit of Hero Week at Friendship Village, residents volunteered at Feed My Starving Children on Wednesday, July 27.

Together, with other volunteers, they packed 99 boxes of food. This will provide 21,384 meals to children in Haiti, who would suffer from hunger and malnutrition if not for these simple yet nourishing meals of rice, protein powder, vitamins and dehydrated vegetables. These boxes will feed 58 children for a year.

Feed My Starving Children is hosting a special Hope-Filled Holiday meal packing event at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center the weekend of Dec. 9-11. Their plan is to pack 1 million meals with the help of 5,000 volunteers, all in one weekend. Friendship Village residents will to be part of this event.

“Volunteer work and giving back to the community is so important and such an integral part of the lives of so many of our residents,” said Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of lifelong learning and volunteers for Friendship Village.

Friendship Village in Schaumburg is a retirement community offering a complete continuum of care including independent living garden homes and apartment homes, as well as assisted living, memory support, skilled care, and short- and long-term rehabilitation services.
