Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs is hosting its annual Kicks for Cures Kick-A-Thon fundraiser at Harper College from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14.

The yearly event benefits ISKC families who are stricken with a devastating illness, as well as the Jennifer Malloy Scholarship fund and many other supported charities.

Students from 75 park districts around the Chicago area where Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs provides karate instruction are invited to participate in the fundraiser.

The event will raise money for various causes supported by the Illinois Shotokan Booster Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1983.

Those causes include providing financial assistance to ISKC families who are stricken with a devastating illness, in addition to supporting the Jennifer Malloy Memorial Scholarship Fund ( www.dailyherald.com/article/20160124/submitted/160129365 ) and other charities such as Make-A-Wish, Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Autism Speaks, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Augie’s Quest, the Alzheimer’s Association and others.

“We are proud to continue our tradition of showing our students and their families the importance of giving back to those less fortunate,” said John DiPasquale, the Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs founder. “Kicks for Cures provides a fun event that raises vital funds for a range of excellent causes.”

The Kicks for Cures Kick-A-Thon event includes instructors leading ISKC students in kicking and punching techniques to raise funds for the charities. All ISKC students are strongly encouraged to participate.

Registration is open for fall karate classes, which include pre-youth, adult and parent/child, and begin between the end of August and early September, based on location.
